It's Simple Really...

I have to thank Randy Strickland
for bringing this topic up. The Rays are in first place- by 4 games as of today. After so many years of futility (the best they have done in the
past is 4th place) they are winning! And the way they are winning- pitching and defense- bodes well for the rest of the year. The pitching should stay solid, and defense generally doesn't slump. If they can start hitting with consistency...look out.

So, to what do they owe their success? Developing their own players? Yup. Strong defense and an improved bullpen? Sure. A confidence that they are never out of games? Oh yeah. But I wonder if their is something else at play. Something bigger. Something larger. Something more meaningful. This is the year they dropped "Devil" from their name, and they are suddenly experiencing greater success (blessings?) than ever before. Coincidence? Well, yeah. But it's also kinda funny.

GO RAYS!

Now if only the Buccs could fare so well...

That's funny! I think you are the first person to equate the removal of the Ray's "devil" to get to them to first place in the AL East. Just think where they could go if they excercised their last demon -> Tropicana field. If they ever got rid of the green shag carpet of the Trop...the sky's the limit.

Well, I guess you have something here. The LA Angels are also in first place in their division. So what's in a name? A lot I guess, at least before the all star break.

BTW: Los Angeles translates city of angels. Tampa translates sticks of fire in some indian language. I guess they should have named the Sticks of Fire or Fire Sticks. Then they could have been as redundant as LA.
