...I'll give you my opinion of the Kimbo Slice fight last Saturday. While most people (including me) were disappointed in his performance and the fight in general, and while it's true that almost any mid-to-top UFC heavyweight would have destroyed him, I'll go ahead and say I don't think he is over-rated. He is, however, over hyped. Lots of people were saying that the guy he fought was a "tomato can", "stiff", etc., and while that may be true, this was only Kimbo's third professional MMA fight. He didn't make the promoter or CBS put him in the headliner slot. And can you fault him for taking the payday? The guy has a long way to go, and I'm really no fan of his, but I think the backlash may be a little excessive. Let him fight a few more times, see if he can increase his skills, and see how he does against better competition.
I guess I should try to make some spiritual application here, huh? Hmm... Let's see...
Got it! You should not allow yourself to be consumed by other people's expectations of you. We are all people "in process" that God is working on and through. Hopefully we are each a little better today than we were yesterday, and I hope that we will be better tomorrow than today. No matter what though, our accountability is to what God has called us to be and His expectations of us.
By the way, I had trouble deciding on one thing for what my "One Prayer" would be, going between "that we would be committed" and "that we would be consistent". They oftentimes go hand in hand. Since I need to settle on one, I will say "that we would be committed".

Very true about Kimbo. He didn't create the YouTube buzz or the hype. And I think if most people who are bashing him were honest, I think they would realize they are faulting him for doing the exact same thing all of hem are doing: whatever it takes to feed their family, get to the top, win a title, you fill in the blank.
He did get winded pretty quick. Had it gone to the card he probably would've lost. But the reason I think I might be a new fan is one of the main things he said in his interview was, "I still have a lot to learn." The guy knows he's not one of the "elite" and I've never heard him say they he was (especially no more than some of the chumps in any random MMA fight during their pre-fight interviews). You can't deny they guy is an absolute stud physically and if he continues to learn, it could mean some bad days ahead for other top level heavyweights.
Now, I feel bad that no one responded to your One Prayer post so there's no way I could comment that big on MMA without giving you my input for what my One Prayer would be.
Being a staff member of Discovery means that I would probably agree with what Jason's prayer would be and I do. If I were going to add my own flavor though, I would have to ask God to make us "Fall in Love". God's really been showing me a lot lately that we or I don't have a clue how much God loves me. The more we see God's love and abide in Him, it should compel us to fall more and more in love with Him. Unfortunately, a lot of times it doesn't. I think most Christians want to, but are we really so passionately in love wit Christ that we would leave everything and follow Him? So that would be my prayer for the church and for myself.
BTW, when you moving?
I guess not much interest in UFC either...
Hmmm, that we would be committed. That sounds familiar. Oh yeah, because that's my One Prayer too.
I bet posting a cute picture of Abbey would generate some comments!! Also, posting a sold sign in your front yard!! And a blog saying you're finally moving to NC or Knoxville, where ever God leads you.
